Bibles for East Africa

Wycliffe Associates

2,000 years ago, a man named Simeon longed to witness the coming of the Messiah. He felt assured by God that he would not die before it happened.
When Christ was born, Simeon was drawn by the Spirit to the temple—and there he took the baby Jesus into his arms and offered a prayer of thanksgiving to God (Luke 2:28).
2,000 years later, an old man named Hassan in East Africa came to faith in Christ and began praying to see God’s Word in the language of his heart.
“I only hope I’ll still be alive—long enough to see God’s Word!”
Bible Translations Completed in East Africa... But There’s STILL No Copy of the Scriptures
Our brothers and sisters, representing four language groups in East Africa, have worked to translate God’s Word into the heart languages of their people.
They’ve devoted themselves to this difficult task. At times, because of persecution, they’ve placed their lives in danger for the sake of their neighbors knowing Christ from the Scriptures.
The translations are complete, but they can’t share them with the thousands—even millions—in this region of the world who are living in darkness for one simple reason...
They can’t afford to print copies of the Scriptures.
Eternal Opportunity for You
It takes an average of $7,000 to print the Scriptures for each of these four language groups. That’s a total of just $28,000 to reach multitudes who have never seen a single verse of Scripture in the language of their heart.
For this crucial cause, could you give a generous gift now to help place a Bible into the hands of someone who eagerly waits to know the truth that will set their heart free?
The Spirit of God Knows No Boundaries of Tribe or Tongue
Here’s the amazing reality: We have the great privilege of taking His Word into the remotest corners of the earth.
People like you have already helped to equip Christ-followers with the tools, technology, and training to translate the Scriptures into the heart language of their people.
But without printed Bibles, the newly translated Scriptures cannot reach the masses.
And when the printed Scriptures arrive, TRANSFORMATION begins.
First: celebration! Then, reading the Scriptures. Studying the Scriptures. Memorizing the Scriptures. Living the Scriptures. SHARING the Scriptures!
Team members who have witnessed it all will tell you that the release of God’s Word in printed form into a people group is far more than the arrival of “just another book.”
- This event validates the people’s cultural identity.
- It tells them that they are important, that they matter to God.
- They are no longer second or third-class beings.
- They are full members of the family of God—because now, at last, God speaks their language.
One staff member in East Africa recently shared, “The Bible is more than just a book of religious wisdom; it is a source of light and life.”
The distribution of printed Scriptures also bridges gaps between people—between tribes, between rival villages—as the reality of God’s grace impacts more and more lives....
Animosity fades before the Cross of Jesus Christ. Old grudges evaporate. The great sacrifice of Jesus for us all is finally made clear to all.
And printed Scriptures draw believers even closer to the Lord. Their faith is stirred and deepened. They grow stronger, more courageous in Christ, and wiser in sharing the Good News.
Your Support—And God’s Word—In Action!
Recently, a Wycliffe Associates team member was visiting the Philippines and was amazed to see a group of brothers and sisters having a Bible study—using a translated and printed Bible that you helped to provide. In fact, it was a translation project that had just been completed!
This demonstrates WHY your support is so important now for the four language groups in East Africa that are ready to be printed. The only thing that stands in the way of placing God’s Word into these outstretched hands... is the funding!
End the Wait... Share Bibles to East Africa
Please don’t miss this opportunity to give a gift of unspeakable joy to believers across four language groups in East Africa... where Christians have already translated the Scriptures for their people but can’t afford to print Bibles.
Don’t let another soul slip into eternity without holding the Scriptures in their own hands, in their own language, in their own heart.
Make a gift now to end the wait for millions by providing copies of God’s Word.
