The images are still vivid in my memory—troops hiking in jungle camouflage with cigarettes dangling from their lips and weapons ready, helicopters circling overhead, bombs and grenades exploding, and smoke hanging in the treetops.

I grew up when the news from Southeast Asia was all bad.

Now, 50 years later, the news I get from Southeast Asia is good news! Bible translation is bringing the Good News to people in their own languages.

Men and women, communities and nations are being transformed by the power of God’s Word one heart at a time!

Southeast Asia includes three countries that are among our highest strategic priorities for Bible translation.

In recent years, Wycliffe Associates has been increasing our staffing and funding for key projects in this region. And having our site volunteer coordinator on location has been a vital liaison with our partners, as well as providing planning and support for Associates serving in the region.

In fact, our current site volunteer coordinator has become so moved by the urgency of the needs that he is choosing to move to one of the neighboring countries to work in remote communities. When he shared his sense of God’s calling, I could only encourage him to respond.

But his move to another ministry opportunity means we need someone to take his place.

The most important quality required is availability, followed closely by a love for serving people. Good administrative skills will help to keep track of the details, and flexibility will help to cope with the inevitable changes that arise.

The primary responsibility is planning, preparing, and supporting staff and volunteers to fill key support roles for Bible translation.

This site volunteer coordinator is located in Chiang Mai, Thailand and is part of a larger team of people involved in supporting Bible translation throughout the region.

It will include travel throughout Southeast Asia. This person also works in close coordination with Wycliffe Associates’ operations and recruiting teams.

If you or someone you know would like to learn more about this service opportunity, just reply to this email or call Jennifer Cunneen toll-free at 1-800-THE WORD (800-843-9673). Jennifer can give you more details, walk you through the assignment process, and connect you with the rest of our team.

You could be the person that encourages dozens of others to take their own step of faith and use their time and talents to advance Bible translation. But first you need to take that step of faith yourself.

Come on . . . take the step!
