You’ve Probably NEVER Met a Man With So Much Blood on His Hands!
Bruce Smith
You’ve probably never met a man with as much blood on his hands as Sivini from Papua New Guinea. Filled with a bloodthirsty hate, Sivini ran his tribe’s “revenge operations” for years. In fact, he was quite a legend among his people . . . and certain death to his enemies.
One day, Sivini was in search of some farm equipment for his tribe. At the same time, a Translator’s Training Course was underway . . . on that same day, in the same area.
This training course was always filled to capacity—training national translators who are desperate for God’s Word in a language they can understand. But on that day, a space had opened up at the last moment, and a friend of Sivini’s in the area grabbed him and brought him to the training.
Can you imagine it? A killer, someone whose whole existence revolved around taking—stealing—lives, in a training course, learning how to translate God’s Word, the Scriptures of life from the One who gives life to all!
It was a transformative moment for Sivini, hearing for the first time the story of Cain murdering Abel and remembering the many lifeless victims he’d left in his brutal, murderous wake over the course of his life. He remembers, “Abel’s blood calling out to God from the ground . . . the words pierced my heart.”
But it wasn’t just conviction that overcame Sivini that day—it was also the possibility of cleansing, forgiveness, peace . . . HOPE for a new life, a different life. The very next Sunday, Sivini made a declaration of faith—publically repenting of his sins and surrendering his life to Christ.
You wouldn’t even recognize Sivini today because of the miraculous power of God’s Word. He says, “My looks have even changed since I accepted Jesus because I no longer carry the weight of guilt from my past. Who but Jesus could do such a wonderful thing?”
The “word came near” that day in the language of Sivini’s heart. Just like the Scripture says, “it’s near” . . . “it’s on the lips” . . . “it’s confessed,” riveting the heart and changing eternity. But for many others, they are still waiting anxiously for a single verse—a single word—in a language they can understand.
