Breaking My Silence
Bruce Smith
I love to write. For introverts like me writing is a convenient way to think "out loud." I started blogging a few years ago but set it aside for a variety of reasons. It would be nice to say that this season of silence was a spiritual discipline, but the truth is that I've been busy with other things. But now I'm back! By popular demand (a few people asked me) I'm going to try to make blogging a habit in 2012.
This is actually a great time for me to return to blogging, since I'm getting ready to depart on another international adventure. Plan A is that in a few days I'll travel to Cameroon and India. Plan B is that my daughter, Abby, will give birth (prematurely) to twin grandsons #3 and #4, and my international adventure will be deferred to another date. But for the time being, Plan A is still in place.
In Cameroon, I'm celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Cameroon Bible Translation and Literacy organization (CABTAL). It is shocking to realize that I've known them for 1/2 of their entire organizational history! My great friend, Michel Kenmogne, is passing the CABTAL leadership reins to my new friend, Efi Tembon. Wycliffe Associates has multiple project partnerships both completed and in process with CABTAL. After the celebration in Yaounde, I'll be traveling with a distinguished WA volunteer, Bob Bates, and a small entourage to the northern reaches of Cameroon. We'll be traveling for a week to install satellite internet connections for three Bible translation teams. Interestingly, these Cameroonian villages are not far (just across the border) from the Nigerian villages I visited for this purpose last March. I'm really looking forward to the village time. Expect more on that in future blogs.
In India, I'm participating in the dedication of the Wycliffe Institute for Languages and Linguistics. This has been a multi-year partnership project with Wycliffe India. Construction of phase 1 was completed in late 2011. I understand that the first class of students begins this month. This training center will be an important resource for reaching 110 more languages in India with the truth of God's Word.
So, this is already too long for my first post back in the blogosphere. But I'm going to hit "post" and see how it goes!
