Prayer Watch: Will You Pray With Me?

This year has traveled by faster than any that I can remember. Since you have asked to support Wycliffe Associates and Bible translation by praying, I’ve written to you every month during this year. And some of you have written to me.

Now, here we are nearing the end of 2017 embarking on an extra special mission: to equip 200 national Bible translators with computer tablets by the very end of this year!  Oh, not just any tablet. These tablets are loaded with specialized translation software and wonderful resources. And you’ve already received an email all about this year-end goal.

My dear friends, let’s talk about the things that we receive from Wycliffe Associates over the course of the year. Oh yes, I receive everything that you do. I’ve been a donor and prayer partner with Wycliffe Associates for many, many years. I feel so privileged to now be the one who has the opportunity to share with you what God is now doing in Bible translation around the world—and I’m honored to ask you to pray with me.

As I think about the messages we will receive in the next two weeks, I see us all gathered together, sitting shoulder to shoulder with our heads bowed. I read a paragraph from a sheet of paper in my lap—and one by one, as the Lord leads, we pray for the needs mentioned in those words. Our prayers are all different because what we hear in those words strike a different thought according to our experience in prayer, our years of Scripture reading and study, and our exposure to missions and Bible translation around the world.

I read the next paragraph. Again, we pray, even pleading with God to make a way for those without one verse of Scripture in their language, to be able to get the Bible translated into their own heart language. And the very next paragraph I read tells of computer tablets, uniquely prepared for Bible translation and ready for nationals to translate Scripture into their own heart languages.

Friends, we are a prayer team. Together we have the privilege to read and pray over every letter, every email, every blog post from our President/CEO Bruce Smith. He is sharing his heart and desire to lead this organization to complete the task—a Bible in every language.

I personally challenge you to read his letters, emails, and blog posts, right along with me, one paragraph at a time, praying for the people, language groups, MAST events, and projects. Look at every email and every letter as your opportunity to pray. Push every button to Donate so that you can read that webpage and ask God to bring those people He wants to make giving their opportunity to be a partner in Bible translation. You can even watch the thermometer to track the progress as more people give each day!

You will receive more emails during this year-end campaign to provide national Bible translators with computer tablets containing software and resources designed just for them to be able to translate the Bible into their heart languages. I challenge you, prayer partners, to pray over every email and over every webpage that you visit and read after clicking the buttons!

This is our God-given task as the Prayer Watch team of Wycliffe Associates—to pray over every aspect of the ministry of Bible translation.

As we close out this year, I pray for you even as Paul prayed for the church in Ephesus:

I pray 
that out of his 
glorious riches he may strengthen you
 with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. 
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, 
to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 
and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled 
to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, 
according to his power that is at work within us, 
to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, 
for ever and ever! Amen.
