Prayer in Nigeria for Bible Translation

Would you go? Have you ever been asked to go to a place fraught with hatred, warfare, and violence?

Bruce Smith, President of Wycliffe Associates, told us years ago that the people who still need Scripture are in the hardest to reach and in the worst of circumstances on earth. More than ever before people need the Lord. Oh, that’s a song—a favorite of mine for many years, written by Steve Green:

Every day they pass me by
I can see it in their eyes
Empty people filled with care
Headed who knows where

On they go through private pain
Living fear to fear
Laughter hides their silent cries
Only Jesus hears

We are called to take His light
To a world where wrong seems right
What could be too great a cost
For sharing life with one who's lost?

Through His love our hearts can feel
All the grief they bear
They must hear the words of life
Only we can share

People need the Lord, people need the Lord
At the end of broken dreams, He's the open door
People need the Lord, people need the Lord
When will we realize that we must give our lives?
For people need the Lord, people need the Lord

“When will we realize that we must give our lives? For people need the Lord.” Read those words over with me again and let’s make it our prayer today. For Nigeria—a land of intense tribal warfare and spiritual darkness. Nigeria has 250 language groups who still need God’s Word.

While they wait, people die! In fact, people are slaughtered! When, my dear friends? How soon will we help them hear of God’s love and peace? Pastors, believers, even a governor who has committed himself to getting Scripture for his people—they are all pleading for our help.

Pray with me dear ones, the need is huge. Our almighty God is leading the Wycliffe Associates’ team to provide tools, technology, and training using the MAST strategy so that all the language communities in Nigeria will have Scripture in the heart languages.

We need people to go. We need people to give. We need people to pray. We believe that God is going to help us do this. As the song ends: “When will we realize that we must give our lives? So, they can hear the Words of life!”

Yes, it’s time for us to give our all.

I’m praying with you,
